To think for yourself, you must learn how to reprogram, reform, inform your own brain. To do this ... it is necessary to question everything that you have been taught, to question authority, to learn to take the brave step of taking responsibility for operating your brain. The lover's food is the love of the bread;

lovers have the interest without the capital.

Lover have pitched their tents in nonexistence:
they are of one quality and one essence, as nonexistence is.

The ego wants to want more than it wants to have. And so the shallow satisfaction of having is always replaced by more wanting. This is the psychological need for more, that is to say, more things to identify with. It is an addictive need, not an authentic one.

Plunge boldly into the Beyond, then be free wherever you are.

Why should we be afraid of Nature, which is no other than philosophy and theology embodied?  Why should we fear to be crushed by savage elements, we who are made up of the same elements?  Let us build an altar to the Beautiful Necessity, which makes man brave in believing that he cannot shun a danger that is appointed, nor incur one that is not; to the Necessity which rudely or softly educates him to the perception that there are no contingencies; that Law rules throughout existence, a Law which is not intelligent but intelligence,--not personal nor impersonal,--it disdains words and passes understanding; it dissolves persons; it vivifies nature; yet solicits the pure in heart to draw on all its omnipotence.

The foregoing generations beheld God and nature face to face; we, through their eyes.  Why should not we also enjoy an original relation to the universe?  Why should not we have a poetry and a philosophy of insight and not of tradition, and a religion by revelation to us, and not the history of theirs?

Let your actions be like clouds going by; the clouds going by are mindless. Let your stillness be as the valley spirit; the valley spirit is undying. When action accompanies stillness and stillness combines with action, then the duality of action and stillness no longer arises.

It is better to spend one day contemplating the birth and death of all things than a hundred years never contemplating beginnings and endings.

So much fear and desire come from that commitment to 'I am'--to being somebody. Eventually they take us to anxiety and despair; life seems much more difficult and painful than it really is. But when we just observe life for what it is, then it's all right: the delights, the beauty, the pleasures are just that.
